Samsung French door refrigerator - leaking water

We recently responded to a call about a Samsung refrigerator that was leaking water at the bottom of the fresh food compartment and pooling underneath the fridge itself. On top of that, the ice maker had stopped working.

When we got this Samsung refrigerator, we already knew the drill.

What We Found During Inspection

When we arrived and inspected the refrigerator, we found several issues:

  • The condenser coils were completely clogged with dust

  • The drain lines were clogged

  • The ice maker room was fully frozen

  • The ice tray could not be removed at all

Because of these problems, water was leaking inside the fresh food section and also pooling underneath the refrigerator.

What We Did to Fix the Problem

We started by cleaning the evaporator drip pan in the fresh food section. After that, we opened the back of the refrigerator and confirmed that the condenser coils and drain lines were heavily clogged.

We cleaned the condenser coils using a brush and special chemicals made specifically for condenser coil cleaning. We also cleaned three drain lines:

  • From the fresh food section

  • From the freezer

  • From the ice maker compartment

After cleaning, we tested all drain lines by pouring water through them. The water flowed properly, confirming the drains were clear.

Defrosting the Ice Maker

Next, we moved on to the ice maker. We do not recommend defrosting Samsung ice makers with a fan, hair dryer, or heat gun. The safest method is using a steamer.

Defrosting took about 30 minutes. This is a very sensitive job because a freon line runs near the ice maker. If that line is damaged, refrigerant can leak out and the refrigerator may stop cooling completely.

We carefully defrosted the ice maker room, removed the ice maker, fixed a missing screw, cleaned the fan motor, cleaned the entire ice maker compartment, and fully dried everything before reassembly.

After putting everything back together, we ran an ice maker test. The test passed, and the refrigerator started working properly again.

Final Result and Recommendations

The refrigerator is no longer leaking water onto the floor, and the ice maker is working again. While Samsung ice makers are known to fail over time and may stop working again in the future, the customer can now use the ice maker and enjoy the refrigerator without water leaks.

We recommend this type of maintenance service for Samsung refrigerators every 1–2 years:

  • Once a year if you have pets

  • Every two years if you don’t

Clean condenser coils help prevent overheating and reduce extra stress on the compressor, allowing the refrigerator to run more efficiently.

If you need this kind of maintenance, you can send us a picture of your refrigerator, the model number, and a short description of the issue (or request maintenance only). We’ll let you know the price and availability. In most cases, we offer same-day or next-day service.
